The hardest part about writing is waiting for "The
Bang".
The Bang is something we all experience in one way or
another,depending on life style,age,interests or whatever.Sometimes
we trundle along through life without one then, when we least
expect it,we get The Bang.It could be anything, your
favourite bands new single,a new car,a new series on TV,a new
movie,a pop or movie star or your latest partner.Whatever
it is,you know you've had one because all your hair feels like
its standing on end and you get a rush like you wouldn't believe.Inside
your head you say to yourself "Wow!Look at that!" (Or
words to that effect) and you're off.
That is The Bang.
But the hardest part about writing is The Bang.Without
it you can't get into what it is you're trying to create and it
falls flat.Or, worse still, never gets finished. It's dull and
uninspiring. So you sit in your lonely solitude looking at your
screen or piece of paper waiting for it to hit you, watching the
last line in a vain hope it'll do something itself. So,the best
thing to do is leave it,walk away and do something else. And,at
the back of your mind, you're waiting for The Bang. Then, sometimes
even weeks later,you could be watching TV,playing a game,driving
your car or whatever and it'll hit you.You realise what went
wrong or the last word of the last line should have been
something else,or you needed another element a little earlier to
get it moving again. You get the rush, and suddenly you're off
again.
Don't look for it,it's gonna find you.And when it does
your creative talents will give you the rewards you want, which is
the point of all this.
So what was The Bang for me to create all this? That's easy.It was
the ship,as simple as that.It was all I had to start with and I
had to make up everything else to get it to work. And,for
me,that was all I needed.
